Holiday Simmer Pot Recipe
A few years ago I started really removing toxins from my home to make it a safer place for my family. One of the things that I removed were all of the candles that I had collected over the years. Most of them contained synthetic fragrances and paraffin wax which get released as toxins when they are burned and pollute the air. Since indoor air is already way more polluted than outdoor air, I decided it was not worth the negative health risks for my family and looked for safer alternatives. Simmer pots are not only easy to make but so much safer because you use real food and they do not release any toxins! I also love them because there are so many variations and you can just use what you have (including scraps from your kids snacks! ) to make it your own.
Here’s my Holiday Simmer Pot Recipe
Use a medium to large sized pot.
Fill the pot water to cover the below ingredients.
1 Orange Sliced
1 Apple Sliced
2-3 Cinnamon Sticks
1 cup Cranberries (frozen or fresh)
2-3 springs Rosemary
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
Bring the liquid to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer on low for a few hours. Add more water, as needed, so there is always some liquid in the pot. DON’T FORGET THAT YOUR STOVE IS ON!
After simmering for a few hours, allow to cool, and then cover the pot and let it sit on the turned-off stove until the next day.
ENJOY!
